The saddest part of the whole Sheehan affair is the way that the right wing has personally attacked her, most the attack dogs have never served in the armed forces or exerienced any loss from the Iraq war, but for some reason people like Rush Limbaugh are considered uber patriots and given great amounts of leeway to attack a citizen like Sheehan who is excercising her right to free speech.

At this point the only reason that the US soldgers are still dieing in Iraq is great patriots like Limbaugh and Kristol don't want to admit they are wrong. What is hard to understand is how these Iraq deadenders have convinced the democratic party that they will look weak if they end the Iraq debacle.

Harry Reid was completely right when he said the war is lost, what is sad is that no pundits jumped up to defend him for speaking the countries mind and maybe that is part of the reason that Democrats seem so timid when it comes to ending the farce that the conservatives gave us in Iraq. They don't want to make the punditacracy mad by speaking the truth.

It's not that the right criticized her, but that it went way out its way to assassinate her character. She definitely had courage: courage to stand against (at the time) a popular war, and stand-up to a president who still had favorable ratings. She endured the insults and threats hurled at her by weak and feeble men, but it cost her; she sacrificed her marriage, financial security, and her personal health. Hopefully, it was not all for nothing. Hopefully she made a little bit of difference.

Live by politicians, die by them.

"However, when I started to hold the Democratic Party to the same standards that I held the Republican Party, support for my cause started to erode and the "left" started labeling me with the same slurs that the right used. I guess no one paid attention to me when I said that the issue of peace and people dying for no reason is not a matter of "right or left", but "right and wrong."--C.Sheehan
